Category A Game Review
Name of game: Star Citizen

The Game with the Highest R&D Expenditure in History
   3B Chan Yu Hang, Ricardo

Welcome to this review of the glorious game known as Star Citizen. I’ve had Star Citizen on my radar for years but there was nothing in this game that really struck a chord with me until one fateful day when I watched a preview video showing the futuristic gameplay. At that moment, Star Citizen had my money! So how does a game with crowdfunding of $390 million US dollars and the highest R&D expenditure in gaming history play in 2022? Let’s find out!

This game can only be characterized as extreme eye candy. A space exploration game with breathtaking cityscapes on different planets. It has incredible ship designs, inside and out, as well as memorable planets. This game is fun to play solo although you can’t count on doing things by yourself all the time because sometimes you get automatically thrust into multiplayer experiences.

Now let’s talk about the main feature of Star Citizen, the ships! The majority of them give you the feeling of realism from navigation performance to flight capabilities and functions. I actually felt like I was piloting something designed and constructed to fly though an atmosphere of some far-flung planet into the blackness of space.

As for how you play this game, you can do anything you like such as bounty hunting, being a guide, delivering goods, mining, trading, carrying out investigations or destroying illegal vessels. You can also play as the bad guy by doing illegal bounty hunting, being a mercenary, delivering drugs, pirating or even killing other players!

Now I have plenty of good things to say about this game but let me tell you some of the negatives, most of which have to do with the game still being in its alpha state. You can expect the desktop version of the game to crash (more often than not at the worst possible moment) which results in a loss of cargo or mined ore if you happen to be carrying any. When your game crashes, you can also expect parts of the map to load in more slowly. But when this game runs properly, there is something to be said about seamlessly moving from one part of this game to another without load screens, flying and landing your ship wherever you like.

Should you buy Star Citizen? Is it a fun game that’s worth US$45 of your money?  If you enjoy games set in space, I’d say it’s definitely a game right for you. Did I experience game breaking bugs? Yep, multiple times and so did my friends. But remember the game is still in its alpha state, so more updates will improve the experience greatly. If you want to give it a chance, you may watch a free demon online from its Fly Invictus Launch Week and if you use my referral code: STAR-MRMV_KYP5, you’ll get 5000 in game credits!
