A letter to all the warrior angels during Covid19

(3C Leung Sze Yiu)

Dear doctors and nurses,

How brave you are in the face of the terrible disaster, COVID-19! From the first confirmed case found in Hong Kong on 23 January 2020, I have been watching the news report every day, and paying attention to the development of the epidemic.

Since the fifth wave, 748685 cases and 449270 cases were tested positive by nucleic acid tests and rapid antigen tests respectively. The cumulative number of deaths was as high as 7959. I was worried about being sick when I found that there was a drastic increase in the infected patients and death rates. I was anxious that my family members, my teachers and classmates and our brave medical staff would be infected.

One day, when I was reading the government’s press release, I knew that a doctor burst into tears during an interview. The reason for his tears was not because of his mental breakdown, nor physical fatigue, nor fear of the pandemic. It was because he saw that his colleagues were working non-stop—they did not have time to go to the toilet, not to mention eating and drinking water. He felt extremely sad that all medical staff worked in high-pressure conditions and were under threat of death. I was utterly shocked when I realized that doctors, nurses and other medical practitioners are bearing the toll and risking your lives to save us in one of the darkest moments during the pandemic.

It has been the third year since the pandemic began. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for your great efforts to fight against the terrible disease. Because of your great effort, the number of recovered patients is gradually increasing and the death toll has gradually declined.

The road to victory over the pandemic is arduous and long. This is a silent battle. I salute you for your courage and selfless devotion to duty. You always dress in white and blue working round the clock. One by one, the pain is relieved, and one by one the sick are brought back to life. You silently shoulder the responsibility and give us hope.

You are like a ray of light, piercing the dark clouds, giving us confidence. You are angels of the Lord, who save us from danger and pain. In order to treat more patients, you keep your distance from your beloved ones including your wives, your husbands, your boyfriends, your girlfriends, your young children, your aging parents and your friends. You have deeply touched our hearts and we will never forget your dedication.

Thank you again for your great support and selfless devotion. You are the most beautiful angels. You are the warrior angels.

Respectfully yours,
A Hong Kong student
